1. Not Just Policies. An Operating Discipline.
An effective compliance program cannot exist only in manuals, training materials and annual audits. It has to function inside the everyday operation of the business. Robert's approach integrates compliance and risk management into sales, marketing, underwriting, customer service, servicing, collections, complaints, vendors, technology and quality assurance. Regulatory requirements become part of how the organization operates and makes decisions.
2. Building Compliance Management Systems
Robert has designed, implemented and led enterprise Compliance Management Systems across complex financial-services organizations. As Vice President, Risk & Compliance at Alleviate Financial Solutions, he implemented and leads a CMS covering multiple business functions. Previously, as Chief Compliance Officer at Servicing Solutions, he built and led compliance, quality assurance, internal audit, complaint management, vendor oversight, licensing and business-continuity programs. His responsibilities included oversight of a nationwide network of more than 400 repossession agencies.
3. Compliance With an Operator's Perspective
Robert's experience extends beyond traditional compliance. At Household International / HSBC, he directed more than 200 employees supporting North American card operations, achieving a 37% reduction in cost per account. Earlier, he launched a deficiency and charge-off collections department that recovered more than $3 million. At Capital One, he managed audit and compliance controls across credit operations, collections, fraud and customer care. He understands the operational realities behind the controls.
4. Where Robert Adds Value
Compliance Management System design and assessment; regulatory and examination readiness; compliance monitoring and internal audit; consumer complaint management; vendor and third-party risk; quality assurance and quality control; policies, procedures and training; compliance governance; business continuity; and executive risk reporting. His experience spans consumer lending, automotive finance, commercial lending, credit cards, debt relief, collections, loan servicing and asset recovery.
5. Risk Management Should Enable Growth
Effective compliance and risk management should help executives understand how to accomplish business objectives responsibly, not simply identify reasons they cannot be done. Whether launching a product, entering a market, introducing technology or changing a servicing strategy, Robert believes risk and compliance should be involved early enough to shape the solution. Identify the risk. Understand the requirement. Design the control. Build it into the operation. Test the result.
